Paper product packaging is one of the most important packaging materials. It is widely used in the packaging of many products, such as food, medicine, chemical industry, building materials, home appliances, toys, electromechanical, it products, textiles, ceramics, handicrafts, advertising, military industry and so on. It occupies a decisive position in the national economy.
In the 21st century, paper has become the most important material in the packaging industry. Among the various packaging materials used in the world, paper and paperboard account for the highest proportion, accounting for 35.6% of the total output value. In China, as an important raw material of packaging industry, before 1995, paper packaging materials were the second largest packaging materials after plastic packaging. Since 1995, the output value of paper product packaging has gradually increased, and surpassed that of plastic, becoming the largest packaging material in China. By 2004, the consumption of packaging paper in China had reached 13.2 million tons, accounting for 50.6% of the total output, more than the sum of glass, metal and plastic packaging materials.
The reason why the traditional paper packaging materials have regained a rapid development speed and become the largest packaging materials in recent years is partly due to the excellent adaptability of the paper packaging products, but more importantly, due to the restriction of environmental protection on plastic products and the pull of the consumer market on environmental protection products. Paper materials are the materials that most meet the requirements of "green packaging".
